Privacy Policy
Effective October 30, 2026. What we collect when you buy and use Checkdown, and why.
The short version
This policy covers Checkdown and checkdown.org, run by Towers One, LLC ("we"). We collect only what we need to sell you a license, deliver your key and keep it working. We don't sell your information or use it for advertising. Checkdown doesn't send us anything about your broadcasts.
When you buy or renew
- Your name or organization (shown in Checkdown as "Licensed to") and email address, to create your license, send your key and receipt, and find your keys if you lose them.
- Payment details are handled by Stripe. We receive a record of the payment (amount, date, a payment reference) but never your card number.
- Education verification: we email a one-time code to your school address. The code is deleted once it's used or expires. If your school's email domain needs review, we keep the domain and the address that asked, so we can tell you when it's approved.
When you use Checkdown
Checkdown runs on your own computer, and your teams, sponsors, settings, highlights and results stay there. It contacts our site only to:
- Activate and check your license: it sends your license key, an identifier for your computer (derived from Windows, not personal), your computer's name (so you can see where your license is active) and the Checkdown version. It checks in when it starts and every few hours while online.
- Check for updates: it sends the Checkdown version and your license key, so it can offer the versions your license covers.
- Count your trial: the first time Checkdown runs without a license, it sends once: the same identifier for your computer (derived from Windows, not personal), the Checkdown and Windows versions and the date your trial started. Our host adds your approximate region (like a state). It never includes your name, email, computer name or anything about your broadcasts, and it lets us see how many people try Checkdown and whether a trial on that computer led to a purchase.
- Run a Remote Control Room (only if you use it): your two Checkdown computers pass the game (scores, clock, stats, team names) and your talkback messages through checkdown.org, and your control room's public internet address is shared with your stadium computer so its video can reach it. The video itself goes straight between your computers, never through us. Rooms are deleted after two days.
Problem reports (only if you choose)
If you turn on problem reports in Checkdown's Settings, it sends a report when something goes wrong: what failed, the Checkdown and Windows versions, an anonymous computer ID and Checkdown's recent log. If you send a report yourself, it also includes what you wrote and, if you give it, your email for a reply. Reports never include your video, teams, sponsors or license key, and they're used only to fix problems.
Who else handles it
- Stripe processes payments.
- Resend sends our emails (your key, codes, receipts).
- Cloudflare hosts this site and its database.
Each handles your information only to provide its service to us.
Security and abuse prevention
To stop abuse, we briefly keep counts of requests by IP address and email (for example, how many verification codes were requested in the last hour). These are used only for rate limits.
How long we keep it
License and purchase records are kept while your license exists, so your key keeps working and can be recovered, and as long as tax and accounting rules require. Ask us to delete your information at any time; we'll delete what we don't need to keep by law, which will deactivate your license.
Children
Checkdown is sold to adults, schools and organizations, not to children. Licenses aren't for anyone under 13.
